So what's an MCP server?
AI apps like Claude and ChatGPT are great at understanding what you mean. On their own, though, they can't open Option Omega or run a backtest. Ask one how a strategy did and the best it can do is guess.
An MCP server fixes that. It's a secure connection that turns your AI from a chatbot into an agent, one that can use Option Omega's tools for you: start a backtest, read the trade log, compare two versions, save the one you like. The backtest results come from our backtester, the same one you use on our app.

If you've connected a broker to Option Omega, you already get the idea. You connect once, sign in to approve it, and from then on the two apps work together. You can remove the connection anytime.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI agents to tools like ours. That's why one Option Omega address works in any AI app that supports it.

Things you can ask your AI
Talk to it in natural language, the way you'd talk to a friend who knows the backtester inside out. Here are a few strategies and questions to start with.
“Backtest a 30-day put credit spread on SPY. Sell the 20-delta put, buy the one 5 points lower, and enter every Monday since 2020.”
It builds the strategy and runs it on our backtester.
“Same trade, but take profit at 50%. Did that help or hurt?”
It changes just that one setting, runs it again and compares the two.

Set it up
Connect your AI app or agent
You need an Option Omega Essential, Plus or Premium plan (a free trial counts) and an AI app or agent that supports MCP.

Add a connector
In your AI app's settings, add a new connector and paste the address above. Some apps call it an MCP server. If you can't find the setting, ask your AI how to add an MCP connector.
Sign in and approve
A window opens. Sign in with your usual Option Omega login and approve the connection.
Ask for a backtest
Start a new chat and describe a strategy in natural language.
What it can and can't do
- It can't place trades
- The MCP server works with backtests, the optimizer and portfolios. It does not access your broker or your automated strategies.
- The AI never sees your password
- You sign in on Option Omega's own page. The AI app only gets permission to use the tools.
- Same limits as our app
- Backtests you run through the AI count toward your plan's daily limits, shared with our app. Ask the AI how many you have left.
- Your work lands in your account
- Ask the AI to save a backtest or portfolio and it shows up in Option Omega like anything you saved yourself.
- It waits for the results
- Backtests run on the same engine as our app. The AI keeps checking and reports back when yours is done.
- Check what it built
- AI can misread a request. Ask it to list the settings it used, or open the saved backtest in Option Omega to see exactly what ran.
MCP server questions, answered
Do I need to know anything about AI to use this?
No. If you can send a text message, you can use it. Connect it once, then ask for what you want in your own words. If the AI needs more detail, like an entry time, it'll ask you.
What is a natural language strategy?
A strategy written the way you'd say it, instead of built with settings screens or code. For example: “Sell a 30-day SPY put credit spread at 20 delta every Monday and take profit at 50%.” Your AI agent turns that into exact backtest settings, and our backtester runs it.
Which AI apps does it work with?
Any AI app that supports MCP. It's an open standard, so the same Option Omega address works anywhere you can add an MCP connector. If you're not sure whether your app can, ask your AI. It can tell you and walk you through the setup.
Does it work with AI agents?
Yes. AI agents are AI apps, powered by large language models (LLMs), that can work through several steps on their own. With our MCP server connected, an agent can plan a test, run it, read the results, change a setting and run it again, then give you the summary.
Does it cost extra?
Not from us. It's included with Essential, Plus and Premium, free trials included. Your AI app has its own plans, and some of its features need a paid one.
Can the AI place trades or change my automations?
No. The MCP server does not access your broker or your automated strategies. It's built for agentic research, not agentic trading, so it works with backtests, the optimizer and portfolios only.
Are the results real, or is the AI making them up?
They're real. The AI sends exact settings to Option Omega, our backtester runs the test on the same historical data our app uses, and the AI reads the results back to you. Run the same settings twice and you'll get the same results. The AI may still do some math of its own when it explains them, so if a number looks off, ask where it came from or open the backtest in our app.
What can the AI see?
Only what it asks Option Omega for in your chat, like a backtest's settings and results. It does not access your broker, your billing details or your password. Keep in mind that whatever the AI reads becomes part of your conversation with that AI company, so their privacy policy covers the chat.
Do backtests through the AI count toward my limits?
Yes. They share your plan's daily limits with the backtests you run on our app. The AI can tell you how many you have left, so just ask.
Can it do everything our app can?
Most of the backtesting side. It can run backtests, the optimizer and portfolios, read trade logs and equity curves, and save your work. Modeling and custom signal uploads still need our app, and it can't test today, because today's session hasn't closed yet.
How do I disconnect it?
Remove the Option Omega connector in your AI app's settings. If you can't find it, ask your AI where it is.
